UNLV Anthropology
Why Anthropology & Art?

A space for more than just method and measure
Our Purpose
As we celebrate Anthropology Week, we want to also celebrate our student’s creativity and talents. Wishing to highlight not only their abilities, but the often under-appreciated creative potential and expression within as well as around our field. The exhibit is space for UNLV students who have taken anthropology courses and faculty of all levels to share their artistic interpretations and inspirations related to anthropology and its subfields.
This annual exhibit aligns with a larger goal of our department to widen the perspective on what anthropology actually is and garner a more open vision of our discipline that embraces expression that is beyond what we see as traditional anthropology. This exhibit also work towards a departmental aim to garner a stronger sense of community and inclusivity of those interested in our field.
The Exhibit
The artwork showcase the connections between anthropology and the different artistic expressions students desire to explore. Encouraging participants to think creatively and use various mediums to express their interpretations of anthropology:
- Photography
- Drawing and Painting
- Sculpture and Mixed Media
The selected artworks will be displayed in a dedicated exhibit at the UNLV campus during Anthropology Week, allowing the community to appreciate and engage with the rich tapestry of anthropological knowledge.
Artist will be consulted on the best way to stage their work close to the exhibit day.
